BGA Builders, a joint venture between BE&K Building Group and Alberici Constructors, Inc., was awarded a contract for design-build construction of an 800,000-square-foot, two-story expansion of FedEx’s existing sort facility at Indianapolis International Airport. The project is a major component of FedEx’s seven-year, $1.5 billion plan to increase capacity at the Indianapolis location, their second-largest hub in the United States.
The expansion will be connected to the existing sort facility by an enclosed, 350-foot-long connector bridge on the second level. In addition to sorting equipment, the facility will also include personnel and support facilities, including ramp agent offices, meeting rooms, cafeteria, mechanical and fire pump rooms, power substation, emergency generators, and a data center. The new building is designed to achieve LEED certification for new construction.
As the project’s design-build contractor, BGA Builders offers a wealth of experience and proven performance in the design and construction of similar processing facilities within major airports throughout North America. Using innovation and collaborative delivery, BGA Builders’ experienced team of specialists is committed to working with FedEx and all project stakeholders to ensure goals for safety and quality are achieved while controlling cost and schedule requirements.
